B1 exam preparation on the platform — what is inside

The “B1 exam” section follows the Certyfikat Polski format: all 5 parts of the exam with tasks at A2, B1, B2, a timed B1 mock exam and a personal study plan up to your exam date.

  • Listening

    Rozumienie ze słuchu

30 min in the B1 exam

Recordings with tasks: multiple choice, true or false, gaps. Checked against the answer key at once.

  • Reading

    Rozumienie tekstów pisanych

    40 min

Texts with questions, “prawda / fałsz / brak informacji” and matching headings. Checked against the key.

  • Grammar

    Poprawność gramatyczna

    45 min

Gaps and the right form: cases, verb aspect, tenses. Checked against the key.

  • Writing

    Pisanie

    75 min

A set of two tasks: a short text (a notice, greetings) and a longer one (a story, a report, an essay, a letter) with a set word count. 9 sets on the platform, checked by the AI.

  • Speaking

    Mówienie

    5 min to prepare + 15 min

Describing a photo, a monologue on a topic and a conversation in a situation, with the AI as your partner. 6 sets, checked by the AI.

Some tasks were drafted with the help of AI: until a teacher of the school has reviewed them, they carry the label “AI draft — under teacher review”.

The B1 mock exam — like the real one

  • 4 full mock exams. The parts come in the exam’s order: listening 30 min, reading 40, grammar 45, writing 75 and speaking — 5 min to prepare and 15 min to answer.
  • The server keeps the time. When a part’s time is up, your answers are sent automatically — as in the exam.
  • The result follows the exam’s rule: at least 50% of the points in every part.
  • Then a review: your answers next to the correct ones, and your writing and speaking mistakes with fixes.
  • Any part can be taken on its own, with its own timer.

Pro and the school’s students: up to 2 mock exams a day; Start: 1 part of the mock exam a day.

How the AI checks your B1 writing and speaking

Your B1 writing and speaking are checked by Claude, a language model by Anthropic, against the criteria of the official sample exams (certyfikatpolski.pl). The model scores each criterion; the server adds up the total and counts the words.

Writing — up to 30 points

Task fulfilmentWykonanie zadaniacontent (every point of the task), text form, length, composition and coherence0–10
Range of languageŚrodki językowerange and precision of vocabulary, variety of structures, style suited to the form0–10
AccuracyPoprawność językowagrammar, spelling, punctuation0–10

Speaking — up to 40 points

Task 1 — picture descriptionZadanie 1 — opis ilustracjiwhat the picture shows and the situation on it; answers to the questions0–7
Task 2 — monologueZadanie 2 — monologtalk on the topic: every point, reasons for opinions, logical order0–7
Task 3 — communicative situationZadanie 3 — sytuacja komunikacyjnareaching the goal of the conversation, reacting to the partner, appropriate register0–6
GrammarGramatykaaccuracy and range of grammar (cases, aspect, tenses, agreement)0–8
Vocabulary and styleSłownictwo i stylrange and precision of vocabulary, style suited to the situation0–8
Pronunciation and fluencyWymowa i płynnośćintelligibility and fluency (approximate — judged from the recognised speech)0–4

What you get after a check

  • Points for each criterion with a short comment.
  • Your mistakes: your words → the correct version → the rule.
  • A model answer to the same task.
  • For writing, the word count: about 20 words more or fewer than the task asks is allowed.

You can record your spoken answer or type it. A recording is turned into text by speech recognition, and the AI grades that text. So pronunciation and fluency are judged only approximately, and a typed answer gets no pronunciation score.

AI checks of B1 writing and speaking a day (each part): Free 1, Start 3, Pro and the school’s students 10.

The limits of AI grading

  • The AI grade is approximate: it shows where you are and what to work on, but it is not an exam result. Only the state examination board gives the official result.
  • The AI can be wrong — miss a mistake or correct something that was right. If in doubt, ask a teacher.
  • Your check history keeps your writing and the grades; transcripts of your spoken answers are not kept.

When a teacher checks your work

The exam tasks are checked by the AI. The open tasks of the lessons — writing a text or recording an answer — are reviewed by a real teacher in two cases: on the Pro plan and for the school’s students.

  • Students of the school’s groups

Homework from the lessons — texts, recordings and photos of a handwritten answer — is checked by your group’s teacher. The AI prepares a draft review; the teacher corrects and approves it. The platform is free for the school’s students.

  • Pro plan

The open tasks of the lessons go to the school’s teachers: the AI prepares a draft, the teacher checks and approves the review.

  • Start plan

The open tasks of the lessons are checked by the AI: points for each criterion, fixes with the rule and the corrected text.

  • Free

In the first 5 lessons of “Polish from zero to A2” the AI gives your answer a quick review at once: what is good and what to fix, without points.

How you see your progress

  • Readiness for each part of the exam: the average of the last 7 days and how it compares with the week before.
  • The 50% line on every part — you see at once which part pulls you down.
  • A study plan: set your exam date and take a 15-question mini-test — the AI writes a week-by-week plan (up to 12 weeks) and every 2–3 weeks suggests re-testing your weakest part. What you do is ticked off in the plan by itself.
  • Your check history for writing and speaking — you see your points grow.
  • Frequent mistakes and “AI tip of the week”: the platform groups your mistakes by topic and once a week suggests what to review (Start, Pro and the school’s students). For group students, their teacher sees this summary too.

What a lesson looks like

Lessons are the school’s interactive courses. For example, “Polish from zero to A2”: 37 lessons, the first 5 open on Free — the base you need before B1.

  1. Video and audio

The topic on video, dialogues and texts read aloud.

  2. Exercises

Fill a gap, pick an answer, match pairs, build a sentence — checked at once.

  3. Open tasks

Write a text or record a spoken answer. Who checks it — the AI or a teacher — depends on your plan (see above).

  4. Talk with the AI

After the lesson, if you like, a conversation with an AI tutor on the lesson’s topic, to use the new words straight away.

  5. Lesson summary

What you covered and the next lesson. New words go to your dictionary in one click.

4 AI tutors

Kasia, Emi, Adam and Mateusz are virtual characters built on Claude, not people. They share the same teaching rules and differ in character: pick the one you like.

  • Kasia

    Your warm, playful friend

Chats, jokes and teaches through scenes from life in Poland — from Żabka to her cat Pierożek

  • Emi

    Calm and precise

Gentle and exact: every ending explained, a rule card after each mistake

  • Adam

    Your energetic coach

Teaches like a coach: sets of drills, a score and straight corrections with dry humour

  • Mateusz

    The storyteller

Slang, memes and stories about Polish history and food — no stress

They explain in English, Ukrainian or Russian; the interface is in English, Ukrainian, Russian or Polish.

Situations from life in Poland

30 role-plays: the AI plays a doctor, an official at the urząd, a bank clerk or a neighbour, and you play yourself. 4 beginner ones are open on Free, all of them on Start and Pro.

  • U lekarza
  • Urząd ds. Cudzoziemców
  • Wynajem mieszkania
  • W banku
  • Rozmowa telefoniczna
  • Na dworcu

Task 3 of the B1 speaking part is a conversation in just such a situation.

Coming soon: video: a role-play at the doctor’s

Dictionary and games

  • The “+ Add to dictionary” button under a message, a lesson text or a word: translation, pronunciation and saving. Or just select Polish text.
  • Saved words come back for review at growing intervals — in the “Words” section.
  • A daily plan: the word of the day, review, a game, listening and the question of the day.
  • Word games with Janek: right answers earn pierogi, which level Janek up and unlock rewards.
  • One streak and one daily goal — 5, 15, 30 minutes. Any learning counts: a lesson, words, a game, a message to an AI tutor.

Questions about the platform and AI grading

How accurate is the AI grade of my B1 writing and speaking?

It is an approximate grade against the criteria of the official B1 sample exams. It shows your weak spots but does not replace the exam result. The AI can be wrong, and it judges pronunciation only approximately, from the recognised speech. How we use AI →

How many B1 mock exams are there?

4 full B1 mock exams, all 5 parts with the exam’s timing. Pro and the school’s students: up to 2 mock exams a day; Start: 1 part a day.

Who checks my tasks — the AI or a teacher?

The exam tasks are checked by the AI. The open tasks of the lessons are checked by the school’s teachers on Pro, and by their own teacher for group students; in both cases the AI prepares a draft and the teacher approves it. On Start the AI checks the open tasks.

Can I prepare for B1 for free?

Free gives you 15 minutes in the app a day: your exam date, the mini-test and 1 AI check of B1 writing and of B1 speaking a day. Every part of the exam and the mock exam are in Pro (39 zł a month); free for the school’s students.

Do I have to speak into a microphone?

No: you can record a spoken task or type it. But the AI can judge your pronunciation only from a recorded answer.

How are the four AI tutors different?

In character: Kasia is warm and playful, Emi calm and precise, Adam a strict coach, Mateusz a storyteller with memes. They share the same teaching rules.

Are my answers stored?

Your check history keeps your writing and the grades, so you can see your progress. Transcripts of your spoken answers are not kept. More about your data →
