What happens to your paper

  1. The centre’s committee marks the papers and sets provisional results.
  2. The papers go to the State Commission, which re-checks at least 20% of the papers from every centre — sometimes hundreds per session.
  3. The chair of the centre’s committee confirms the final results, and the protocol goes back to the centre.
  4. The centre informs you in writing within 3 days of receiving the protocol.

That is how the Commission itself describes the process (certificate timing notice, Procedury). Its notice says the wait for a certificate may be at least 8 weeks from the exam date; one centre’s rules say results may take up to 10 weeks (UR rules).

When and how the certificate arrives

The Commission issues the certificate with its supplement (suplement) within 30 days of receiving the exam protocol, once the centre has paid €20 for each candidate who passed (Commission FAQ). Certificates are sent to the centres and then handed over under each centre’s rules — Politechnika Białostocka, for example, posts them to the address given at registration.

Good to know: the certificate never expires. It is the only state document confirming proficiency in Polish as a foreign language (FAQ). There is no need to retake the exam to "renew" it.

Seeing your marked paper

Within 21 days of receiving your result you can ask the centre for a copy of your paper to review (wgląd do pracy), and the centre must provide it (Procedury, § 25 ust. 2). Worth doing even if you passed: you see where the points went.

Re-check of the written part

If you believe your written part was marked wrongly, you can request a re-check (wniosek o ponowne sprawdzenie części pisemnej). The speaking part cannot be re-checked.

Re-check of the written part: the essentials
WhatHow
Deadline21 days from receiving the result; late requests are not considered (for post, the postmark counts)
WhereTo the State Commission — by post or in person at NAWA, ul. Polna 40, Warsaw
Fee€20 or the złoty equivalent
IncludeYour details, exam details, optionally which part you dispute and why, your signature, proof of payment
DecisionWithin 30 days, up to 60 in justified cases

The certificate is withheld while the request is considered. If something is missing, the Commission asks you to complete it within 14 days. The form and bank details are on the Procedury page.

If you did not pass

Disappointing, but not a disaster: there is no waiting period, and you can register for a later session. How to read your result and prepare for a second attempt: failed the Polish B1 exam — what next. And what the certificate is for: B1 for citizenship and EU long-term residence.
